Why You Should Detour to Borgarfjordur Eystri in Iceland

When it comes to touring Iceland, if you are going to explore outside of the capital city of Reykjavik, you’ll inevitably find yourself on the famous Iceland Ring Road. This iconic road, also aptly named Route 1, is the only road that circles the entire country. As such, if you venture out beyond a simple day trip, you will likely be committed to driving the whole way round on a multi-day adventure (one that we cannot recommend enough).

It would be entirely possible for a visitor to do a full Iceland road trip in just about five days if you really push it, but you would miss out on the many incredible detours to the coastal towns and fjords that make Iceland the amazing country that it is.

It doesn’t take many detours to make your trip longer, and by just adding only on three or four you’ll end up with a nine day loop around the country like we did. If you decided to add on even more exploration of the back roads, western fjords, or even the highlands with a four wheel drive monster vehicle, you could be in Iceland for over a month without seeing it all.

But what do you do if you don’t have a lot of time? What if you only had time to make one major detour from the Ring Road- where would that be?

Well, if we had to make our pick, it would be detouring to the fjord towns of Seydisfjordur and Borgarfjordur Eystri in the north east corner of the country.

This one was our favorite day in Iceland.

11 Awesome New York Waterfalls to Visit That Aren’t Niagara Falls

Out of all of the natural formations out there in the world, one of our favorites is waterfalls. These beautiful walls of water can take on various shapes and forms and are awe-inspiring every time we see them.

As far as New York waterfalls are concerned, they’re among some of the very best in the country- and many are just as inspiring (if not more) than the iconic Niagara Falls!

Since we are frequent travelers in upstate New York, we wanted to share a few of our favorites today (although the below are certainly not a collection of them all- there are a ton of waterfalls in NY worth checking out!). So if you find yourself on a New York road trip between Rochester and Syracuse, or are perhaps checking out wineries in the Finger Lakes, be sure to detour to these great falls!

5 Important Do’s and Don’ts for When You Visit Egypt

The Do and Don’t list is something that I have always enjoyed watching on travel specials and am throwing my hand into the style with this new feature! 

While some of these features are often in the style of “you must do this” and “you might as well miss that,” this version will be formatted in a different way and in no way tell you not to do something major, as my misfortune might be someone else’s highlight.

Instead, the “Do” will feature a specific place or thing to do in the destination that is a great site and/or experience, and the “Don’t” will spotlight what to keep in mind during that activity that is not well known and publicized when planning the trip.

How to Take Perspective Photos of the Bolivian Salt Flats

Finally, we made it to the world’s largest salt flats- the Uyuni Salt Flats in Bolivia!  Our excitement could not be contained as we watched the sun rise over the vast plain of salt that is almost as large as some small European countries.

With only a few mountains off in the distance, and an endless field of salt at our feet, we finally understood why the Uyuni salt flats draws in so many visitors each year.

It is unlike any place we’ve ever visited.

Armed with our two Roaming Gnomes, a toy llama, and a bottle of Pisco, we were quite excited to get out into the middle of it all and take some hilarious forced perspective photos.

After starting, we quickly noticed an issue. Our photos were awful!

The clock was ticking on our time in the salt flats, and we had to figure out a solution fast.
