TravelCon Review – A Travel Bloggers Conference to Seriously Consider

TravelCon is a new conference for travel bloggers put on by the team behind Nomadic Matt- one of the world's most popular travel blogs.

The first conference took place in late 2018 in Austin, Texas, and offered three full days of sessions, networking opportunities, events, and more (in similar construct to the competing conference TBEX which has been around for the better part of a decade).

But as TBEX has had a somewhat bad reputation as being too beginner friendly, TravelCon stepped in to try and cater to all blogging skill levels- be it beginner, intermediate, or advanced. Naturally, I was intrigued and was fortunate enough to check out the conference after winning a ticket from my ad network (and event sponsor), Mediavine.

So, is TravelCon worth it? We share the highlights and pitfalls in this full review!

Conquest Maps Review – The Most Beautiful Travel Map in the World

When we are at home, we like to have constant reminders of our travels. From the random knick-knacks to hand painted artwork we pick up on the road, our house is covered with decorations that remind us of where we've been over the years.

But one of our favorite pieces of travel art is one that does not come from our travels, but is about our travels- our world map!

For many years we were settled with a DIY travel map with push pins we made ourselves, but after a while we knew we were in need of an upgrade. We searched the internet, read countless reviews, and settled on one that appeared to be leaps and bounds better than the rest- Conquest Maps.

It was the best decision we ever made.

TravelCon vs TBEX – Which Travel Bloggers Conference to Attend?

For many years TBEX owned the travel blogger conference scene and put up conferences in North America, Europe, and Asia.

In 2018 a new conference came along, TravelCon by Nomadic Matt, and seeks to disrupt the standard.

I attended both conferences in 2018 (TBEX in the Finger Lakes, NY and TravelCon in Austin, Texas) and as a serial conference attendee thought it would be appropriate to put in my two cents on which conference is right for you moving forward.

Please note: I attended TravelCon in 2018 as well as TBEX North America in 2013, 2014, 2017, and 2018. I won my ticket to TravelCon in 2018 from a vendor and paid for my ticket to TBEX; however, I was a hosted speaker twice in the past. All comparisons in this post are between the 2018 events alone which took place one week apart from each other. I'm an affiliate for Matt's Superstar Blogging Course but I have no vested interest in steering you to one conference or another.

Norwegian Jewel Review – A Bit Dated, But Comfortable All the Same

In 2018 we hopped aboard the Norwegian Jewel for an Alaskan cruise that was many years in the making (about five by our count). We were making this trip with our families for a big adventure that included a DIY add-on to Denali National Park and spanned well over two weeks.

As with most cruises we go on, we pick our ships based on the itinerary and dates first, and then hope for the best with the on-board amenities and offerings second.

Our northbound itinerary on the Norwegian Jewel fell into this setup. We knew the ship was dated at the time of booking, and our experiences on-board confirm this, but for the right itinerary we were still more than happy with what we got.
