Bro Review – A Lovely Prix Fixe Experience in Alesund

After road-tripping around Norway in some very remote places, often cooking our own meals, we arrived in the town of Alesund excited to eat at some proper restaurants. Highest on our list to try was the fine dining restaurant Bro (Norwegian for “bridge”). This spot was recommended to us by a Norwegian couple we met at Aegir Brewery in Flam (thank you guys!), and it was the most delicious, creative meal we had on our entire trip.

So if you’re looking for a prix fixe dining experience with delicious wine pairings to match, Bro most certainly needs to be on your radar.

Tips and Advice for Driving in Norway’s Western Fjords

Before heading to Norway, we were concerned about what the driving conditions would be like. We knew that the country was home to many mountain passes and windy, twisty roads on the fjords, but to be honest we didn’t quite know what to expect.

Thankfully, driving in Norway is a breeze, and we had a relatively easy time exploring the western fjords in and around Bergen on our two week trip.

Norway is an interesting country if only because there are so many ways to get around, be it by car, camper van, or even a cruise ship, and each has its own pros and cons associated.

So in this one, we thought we’d break down these popular transportation options and share some insights of what you will expect with each in Norway!

Note: Another option we are not discussing in this post is traveling by bus. While it is certainly possible to visit many major cities and even small fjord towns by bus, your options to get out and explore from there are limited significantly without access to a personal vehicle or organized day tour. Some destinations are far better for this than others, but we personally would not recommend it.

Where to Stay in Sweden for the Aurora – Kiruna vs Abisko

So you’re planning a trip to try and see the northern lights in Sweden- awesome! If you are lucky, you really are in for a treat.

But to have the best odds of seeing the aurora borealis, you need to head into the Arctic Circle in winter, which, for Sweden, may likely include potential destinations of Kiruna and Abisko. The former is a city that is home to the country’s furthest north airport, and Abisko, an hour north from there, is home to some of the clearest skies in the country.

Travelers exploring the Arctic Circle of Sweden tend to stay in one of these two destinations during a visit, but making a decision between the two has several considerations to keep in mind.

We personally stayed in Kiruna and took a night trip to Abisko, and in this one share a bit more about our thoughts on each and how we’d change it up for a future trip.
