Key lime pie is one of my all-time favorites, and, true to name, you have no shortage of options when traveling around the Florida keys.
We made it our mission to try as many Key lime pies as we could, from Key Largo to Key West, and certainly ate our fill during our three short days in the area.
But while we could talk about all of the Key lime pies we sampled in this one, instead, we wanted to focus on our three favorites. The best of the best. The Key lime pies we still dream about. The places where you’ll want to immediately order a second slice. The kind of place that I would feel sad if anyone missed- they’re just that good.
So if you’re looking for Key lime pie perfection, do not miss these three staples in the Florida Keys!
Mrs. Mac’s Kitchen (I or II)
If you’re driving down the Florida Keys on a road trip and are craving Key lime pie. There really is no better place to stop than one of the two Mrs. Mac’s Kitchen locations in Key Largo.
This one makes our cut for some of the best Key lime pie in the Florida Keys as it has it all- a perfectly cooked and flavorful crust, a rich lime filling that has a nice acidic kick, and just the perfect amount of meringue on top. For those who like balanced flavors in all components of Key lime pie, this one is just a delight.
But if you’re wanting to enjoy a meal on your road trip, don’t overlook the rest of the menu at Mrs. Mac’s Kitchen as they offer an array of entrees including a rather impressive selection of conch dishes, too!
Go for the pie, stay for the food? We’re in.
Mrs. Mac’s Kitchen has two locations on Key Largo. The original at 99336 Overseas Highway and the second (aptly named Mrs. Mac’s Kitchen II) at 99020 Overseas Highway. We visited Mrs. Mac’s Kitchen II on our road trip.

Blond Giraffe
Blond Giraffe, also known as the Key Lime Pie Factory, is another spot for Key lime pie that you can only experience on a Florida Keys road trip.
This one is not a restaurant, however, and is instead a small kiosk located just off of Overseas Highway in Tavernier. Guests walk inside a small building, order at the counter, and can either take slices (or whole pies) to go or to enjoy in the gorgeous on-site garden.
So, why does this pie make our cut? The filling. The Key lime flavor in this pie is intense and really hits all the right lime notes. As an added bonus, this one sells slices of pie with and without meringue, and is so good you really should just get one of each to see what you prefer yourself!
Blond Giraffe is located at 92220 Overseas Highway in Tavernier, FL.
Blue Heaven
We head down to Key West proper for our final Key lime pie. Blue Heaven is a beautiful, mostly outdoor garden style restaurant and cafe known for their stellar breakfasts, lunch, and dinner (plus a long history to match- be sure to read all the signage you can when visiting this one)!
But it was the Key lime pue that got us to Blue Heaven during our visit, as far and wide it is referred to as the best on the island, and it delivers.
This one is the whole package when it comes to Key lime pie perfection- a tart filling, flavorful crust, and a mound of meringue that is borderline on the excessive (but still somehow works). Even though I am generally on the less-is-more mindset when it comes to meringue, I have to admit that the perfect texture of this one with a light browning on top made for a perfect slice that was so good, we immediately ordered a second.
My only regret? Not being able to return for a third.
Blue Heaven is located at 729 Thomas Street in Key West.
