When deciding on a hotel in Praslin, we stumbled upon Coco de Mer and Black Parrot Suites along the southern coast of the island and were intrigued as the price was reasonable (by Seychelles resort standard) and the property was beautiful. So we booked it right away.
After staying here, we can safely say that we had an excellent time and would stay again; however, we had a few details to keep in mind before booking.
Coco de Mer is a Gem on Praslin
Coco de Mer and Black Parrot Suites is a beautiful property located roughly 15 minutes west of the jetty along the southern coast of the island (minutes from the famous Les Rochers restaurant).
The property is a full resort with luxurious rooms, suites, an on-site restaurant, spa, pool, and a public over-water bungalow with an infinity pool- perfect for watching the sunset if you can snag one of the approximately 20 seats.
The resort is one of those places where you’ll want to spend a bit of time during your stay simply because it has just a bit of everything- including a modest beach that, admittedly, was fairly covered in seaweed during our early November stay.

While our room amenities were fairly conventional by resort standards, the biggest surprise of this hotel was the prices for the bar and restaurant. Drinks were often 50% cheaper than other hotel bars, and entrees were about 35% less than other comparable restaurants on the island. A reasonably priced cocktail? Well, we’ll have two, and thank you for the discount. That said, the hotel does push their nightly buffet pretty hard, but for the most part ordering a la carte was almost always a better value proposition for us.
As such, we often found ourselves making this hotel our go-to spot for sunset drinks and subsequent dinners (apart from visiting Les Rochers) as its semi-remote location on the island was somewhat lacking in other restaurant options nearby. Otherwise, we would have had a decent drive in the dark which is something we always try to avoid in the Seychelles.
Don’t Skip the Spa at Coco de Mer
For those who want to go into full relaxation mode, a visit to the spa also follows the reasonably priced trend and we were rather pleased to see massage options for significantly less than other hotels we have stayed in.
The spa is located on the Black Parrot Suites side of the property, with its own mostly private pool and bar, and features facilities built high on the cliffside with one of the most imposing views of the coast you will see anywhere in the Seychelles.
Truly it was a shame to have to have our heads face down on the table the entire time as we honestly could’ve just stared out at the view all day and been happy. But the massages were lovely and a nice little bonus that we only afforded due to the fact that, as mentioned, everything at the hotel comes in at a respectable price point by resort standards.
Ultimately, Coco de Mer’s only real downside is its location. You’ll have a bit of a drive on your hands to go to many of the beaches on Praslin, and, while we admit those are still quite short (20-30 minutes), is worth keeping in mind. Throw on the concern about dinner (which we still think ended up being a benefit in the long run), and its location does have a minor fault to keep in mind.
But this was no trouble because if there is any property that we would have been happy to enjoy its amenities more than anticipated, it would be Coco de Mer, and for that, we were quite pleased with just how well our stay ended up being.
