It's a beautiful lava field and lake system. Old volcanos and lava flows. Dimmuborgir is a legendary place where the Yule Lads sleep through the summer. Bear in mind that the summer can have hatches of midges.
Krafla Power Station, active geothermal mud pools, Mývatn Nature Baths.
If you travel in the winter it's a great place to see the Aurora as practically no light pollution.
Obviously it's not as nice as Akureyri, but I would say that as I live there

Myvatn Lake certainly has beautiful scenery and the weather is typically warmer than the coast. For the full service/hotel travelers I would recommend Fosshotel. For campers there is plenty of accommodations.

So much to see and do in this area!
So much to see and do in this area! Thankfully we were up and out just after nine! We packed in so much! Lots to see down the eastern side of the lake. Each activity offered us something different and unusual that we hadn’t experienced before. The thermal baths there, although smaller than the Blue Lagoon, are much cheaper and actually offer senior rates. Two pools, one warmer than the other and one sort of large hot tub area. Well worth the money! The cakes in the restaurant there and the coffee were some of the best we’ve had and are reasonably priced. They also have larger meals and soups on offer.

Myvatn is a beautiful lake, and the surroundings have plenty to offer to visit and for hiking. It has a great variety of scenic points and shorter and longer walks. At Skutustadir is a nice information centre that also a small exhibition explaining the origin of the circle of craters over there.

Although it was a long drive from the west of Iceland, it was well worth it. There are so many hidden gems: 2 grottos, a fissure off the beaten path, a nature bath that rivals blue lagoon, and so much more. It's also not crowded due to the location. Well worth the drive!
This was the best hotel we stayed in Iceland. The free amenities (Sauna, Hot tub, pool billiard, bathrobe, flip flops, etc.) and the free breakfast were just great. The room was modern and spacious. The northern lights wake up call is a wonderful free service (we didn't have any luck though). The location is incredible across from a volcano walking trail. Seriously, we were so excited when we saw what the hotel offers for such little money (in March). Will definitely stay here again when I return. Thank you!
This accommodation is a real Aurora restaurant. I watched the Aurora in front of the accommodation for two days without stopping~^^
The heating was good and it was warm.
It's in front of Lake Myvatn, so the view is good. If you open the window at the back, you can see the Volcano's Caldera. I stayed there for 2 days, and the old man at the reception was very friendly. ^^
The two dogs were very friendly..
had a comfortable stay. Next time I visit, I want to stay here again.
The location is beautiful. The place is family owned and on a farm. On one side of the hotel are rolling hills with horses and on the other Lake Myvtn with a lovely walk around pseudo craters across the street from the guesthouse. There is also a delicious ice cream shop made with the farm’s dairy products. The breakfast was top notch. Almost everything was made in house on the farm (milk, bread, smoked trout, pate). So delicious! Very quiet location.
The location was amazing, close to Husavik, right next to lake Mývatn, close to local spa, near amazing restaurants and quite close from the famous Godafoss waterfall.
The staff were very nice and helpful, coming from the Czech republic we were surprised there very plenty of Czech people working there.
The room was perfect, very spacious and modern, beds comfy and bathroom was great, too. The view was great as well.
Definitely recommended!
The campground hosts were very helpful in providing information. The huts are close to a supermarket/gas station and Myvatn lake seems like a vacation spot for the locals. I really liked having a porch to sit on at the end of the day. We used the kitchen of the hostel down the road. The campground bathrooms and showers were kept clean and were walking distance from the huts.
Our room was bright and stylish, featuring large windows that provided a fantastic view of Mývatn Lake. With two windows in our room, we enjoyed different vistas and sunlight in the morning and evening. The common areas were equally stylish and well-maintained. Pretty high quality breakfast served in their restaurant, especially the unique addition of cod liver oil.
We did a tour around Iceland and we stayed one night at Aska Modern Cabin. The cabin is situated in a perfect location near Myvatn lake. The reception is nearby and the crew is helpful and friendly. The cabin has all the facilities you need, even a small kitchen if you want do do your own cooking. And we could park the car really nearby.
Location is nice, around what's important in Myvatn.
Room is comfy
People are very respectful, since the building is a bungalow it could have been a way worse experience if people were not.
Overall we had a nice stay but compared to all other hotels we had we think it's a bit too expensive for the service offered.
We were not able to to stay at the hotel since we got stuck at an closed road way before Myvatn, so I cant evaluate the hotel or the rooms. But I want to mention here, that the team was very friendly and opend us the possibility to move our booking to the next date. Very friendly. Thanks!
We enjoyed staying at this hotel. The room was beautiful, clean and large. Best shower during our entire holiday. The people were very friendly and the breakfast was delicious. The surroundings are also beautiful. Definitely recommended to stay for a night.
Small room in a cottage, clean and pleasantly warm, no breakfast, helpful staff, quiet place, near Lake Myvatn and Myvatn Nature Bath (like Blue Lagoon but not to much people) and not far from Dettifos,
The location is very good, close to the lake. The owner of the property is a very nice person. had a nice and informative talk after dinner. This hotel is more a family house with a pleasant atmosphere.
This is a luxury hotel. The location is out on a point all by itself. It has a postcard view from all sides. The restaurant is some of the best fine dining I have had.
If you’re into camping or rustic accommodations, this spot be for you. It’s in a good location in Myvatn and has a lovely breakfast room right on the lake.
