The amazing location of Hotel Skaftafell provides guests with stunning views of Iceland's highest mountain, Hvannadalshnjukur and the largest glacier in Europe, Vatnajökull.

Location was great. Dark enough at night to see the Northern Lights, and the surroundings were beautiful.
Set next to Hof turf church, this hotel offers an on-site restaurant and free WiFi. Skaftafell National Park is 15 minutes' drive away from the hotel. Cape of Ingolfshöfdi is 1.9 mi away.

Helpful staff and comfortable room. Wonderful food in restaurant too!

stunning, make sure you walk all the way down the trail, there are two other gorgeous waterfalls that a lot of people missed by not going all the way to end end of the trail (which is only a few hundred meters long).

This is an amazing place to hike and see some glorious views - especially on a clear day - which can be a bit tricky. We were extremely fortunate to have some of the the sunniest days recorded. Could not ask for a more comfortable hike. There are glacier hikes that you can pay for but honestly parking at the Park and hiking up yourself is something you will not soon forget. Not too laborious, but you defintely feel like you are exercising. Loved every minute of this hike and I wish I could have stayed longer.

Sadly we only had a day in Skaftafell and I wish we had more time to explore the national park. What we did see was stunning. Nature, hikes, glaciers and ocean all within a stones throw of each other. Well worth a longer visit than just to pass through.

Tremendous family run generational local property.
Tremendous family run generational local property. Gorgeous setting and very close to National Park. Great path in rear of property leading to amazing glacier views and outlet lagoon. Lovely dinner and dessert! Friendly, warm staff. Great relaxing indoor bar and outdoor patio with stunning glacier views. Thank you, Hotel Skaftafell!!!
Great location, beautiful setting, incredible views of mountains and glaciers. Checked in early evening then we walked a lovely, quiet trail from our room right to a glacier before sitting down to an excellent gourmet dinner. The room was small, with dated furnishing and twin beds, but had an up to date, roomy, nice bathroom and was very clean and comfortable. Very close to National Park entrance (parking lot). The breakfast was very nice. The room had a huge window that we could open to let in that marvelous fresh air.
A very well run Hotel with friendly staff and everything you could need. We were looking up to the snow capped mountains from our room which was generous in size and good facilities. Breakfast was varied and had some Icelandic dishes which i loved! Didn't eat an evening meal in the Hotel but the DIner over the road which again was very good with a more simpler menu but the food was filling. Gas pumps only took UK Credit card not debit so make sure you've got one spare! I would recommend this hotel.
What a sweet hotel! It is in a perfect location to visit the national park via the Skaftafell entrance, where there are many excellent hikes. The staff is friendly and helpful, and pointed out the cool and easy trail behind the hotel that goes to the glaciers, with great views. The room was comfortable and quiet, with nice beds. The restaurant is open again (hooray), and we had a great meal there for dinner, as well as a very nice (included) breakfast.
Great hotel in a perfect location on the south of the island. Restaurant evening meal and breakfast the following morning were both good quality and tasty. As others have said, there is a great walk out the back of the hotel straight to the glacier, which I would recommend to anyone visiting. All in all, a really positive experience, and we’d happily stay were again.
Lovely people at this very clean hotel situated strategically a 10-40 minutes drive from great waterfalls and icebergs. Just a 15 minutes walk behind the hotel is a Svinafellsjökull Iceberg. We stayed two nights in the beginning of April and caught a glimpse of the Northern Lights. The food is excellent, both breakfast buffet and dinner. Highly recommended!
The property is conveniently located within 5 minutes of the Skaftafell base camp for hiking and glacier tours. The staff was very friendly and we were pleasantly surprised to learn of a relatively easy private trail to one of the glacier tongues. Our stay included continental breakfast which was a wide assortment of items.
The location was great, you have the glacier behind the hotel, you are in a few minutes with the car to skaftafell visitor Center. Breakfast was also good, there is a Restaurant where you can take dinner. A little expensive but given that there are not so much possibilities to eat, it was acceptable.
Hotel is located on the main road with steps away from the glacier. We got the last room in the hotel and it had views of glaciers from the window. Reception was friendly and helpful in guiding us about nearby location and activities. Decent breakfast with hot and cold options.
The location great. I had requested for a quiet room and the hotel was kind to fulfill this request. I enjoyed dinner at the restaurant. The dishes were delicious and prepared to a good standard. The staff at reception were always friendly, at any time of the day.
The location was fantastic. Behind the hotel are some great walks that overlook the glacier. This was worth the stay at the hotel. It was also a basic but functional room. There was a good choice of breakfast options. The beds were comfy.
Perfect location and views. My absolute favorite trail walk is behind the hotel which takes you straight to Svinafelljokull —a MUST if you are in south Iceland. Plus great restaurant and fresh cuisine (breakfast and dinner) Takk!!
Good breakfast.
The room was an average size, the beds were comfortable.
The hotel reception provided a wake up call for the Northern Lights!
There is a nice walking trail directly behind the hotel to the edge of the glacier.
Medium-sized, family-run hotel. Friendly staff. Pleasant, clean, functionally furnished rooms. Average breakfast. There is not much accomodation choice in Skaftafell if you want to make a glacier tour from there.
Beautiful well kept hotel with very comfortanle rooms in the middle of the Skaftafell National park. Amazing breakfast. We saw the northern lights here
