About Living the Dream

"The one regret I had in my life was not traveling sooner."

This statement is made by hundreds of thousands of people every year.  Think about it, and you might even come up with someone you know who has made this very same statement.

In our work oriented culture, travel is resigned to short 2-3 week bursts in a single destination. Why 2-3 weeks? Most often this is the maximum time that anyone can take off from a job.  Rather than seeing a culture and experiencing adventure, the time is spent on relaxation and recovery.

The thought of traveling longer is always met with the same two roadblocks: expense and time.  Although put on the back burner, the desire remains the same. Day after day, year after year, until finally you find yourself uttering that famous quote like so many others.

Living the Dream was founded in August 2008 as a way to keep focused on planning and saving for the goal of long term travel - while showing others how to do the same.

The trip came and went in late 2010 for a period of 5 months.  Even with so much travel, there is a strange phenomena, it compounds.  The more you travel, the more you want to travel.  The more places on your list you visit, the more places get added through conversation with fellow travelers, and this is especially true for us as we plan future adventures together.

Long term travel is life altering, and addicting.  Planning for such a feat, is tricky and requires a lot of thought and saving.  Living the Dream has evolved to be one of the leading resources in long term travel planning, as well as a source highlighting some of the world's best travel destinations based off our own personal adventures!

Through our site and resources, all aspects of planning any trip are discussed for your needs, with more articles every week (now 500 and growing!).  Subscribe to our RSS Feed, follow on Twitter, interact and watch for bonus updates via Facebook, and begin planning your dream!

We personally reply to every single e-mail we receive in order to answer any burning question on travel, no matter how many times answered before!

So, if you are like the thousands of others out there who don't know where to begin, let us help you.  Start with the ever growing RTW Planning Guide, which highlights the most important planning posts you will need to go longer, cheaper, and live your dream!

Who are we? Just a crazy engaged couple seeking the world's treasures and adventures!

Jeremy

Jeremy founded Living the Dream in 2008 to plan a long-term trip around the world.  The plan evolved from a short-term trip throughout Asia, to a massive year long endeavor.  In the end he spent 5 1/2 months on the road throughout 9 countries in east Asia. Instead of continuing on, he opted to return home with Angie after getting engaged in Thailand in January 2011.

In total, Jeremy has visited 34 countries and territories from around the world in North America, Caribbean, Europe, Middle East, and Asia.

Not only does Jeremy try anything once, he is often the first to raise his hand to volunteer, be it paragliding in Austria to eating unborn duck embryo in Vietnam (it really does taste like chicken!).  When on the road, Jeremy is likely inseperable from his Nikon D80 SLR camera, taking amazing photography of tourist sites, monuments, and nature.

Angie

Angie began writing for Living the Dream in 2011, mostly at the request of Jeremy through minor contributions and grammar checks. While Angie did not partake in the 5 1/2 month trip, she did enjoy a brief two week adventure in Singapore and Thailand while visiting Jeremy over her Christmas holiday.

New to the international travel game, Angie first left the states for the first time in Fall 2009 while visiting Canada with Jeremy.  Since then they have traveled 9 additional countries together including a Caribbean cruise as well as Singapore and Thailand.

With a motto of try anything twice, Angie is trying new adventure activities at the encouragement of Jeremy.  Her passion for all things food results in frequent cooking classes while on the road and inspired the creation of our sister blog, The International Food Project.   She may not be writing much now, but our future plans will have her being a frequent author to the site!
