Over the course of the last few months I have felt myself getting very burnt out on my research for my masters degree. Increasing hours in the lab and not having a good feeling about finishing with a solid paper has had me on edge for a while. Today is just another day of the same feeling, until I realized that in almost exactly seven months I will be boarding my one way ticket to Tokyo and away from this place forever. It is so close that I can start looking at purchasing that ticket, but at the same time it still seems so far away. The daily grind of work keeps getting in the way making the trip seem ever so far away.
It was this topic that I was discussing with @20sTravel on Twitter (Stephanie from Twenty-Something Travel) where we decided to create a support group for all those, like us, who are stuck in their jobs counting down the days until we leave for extended travel. A few more travelers chimed in, and within a few minutes the #RTWSoon hash-tag was born!
The current topic of conversation in the group is what we are all doing at our jobs to keep sane, and a snapshot of the dialogue is featured in the post picture. A few of the notable ones are listed below:
@20sTravel: I also change my desktop wall paper each month to reflect where I think I'll be this time next year. Right now it's Bali
@travelsofadam: Just changed my password on my work computer to something along the lines of GO ABROAD NOW
@DTravelsRound: I read everyone's stories who are on their very own RTW trip!
@livingdreamrtw (me): I have a map of the world in my office. Every pay day I draw my route another inch longer. $20k saved, $10k to go!
Hopefully this type of community involvement will increase. So for all those reading who are stuck at work and planning their own RTW trip, been on a RTW trip, or have a desire to go on a RTW trip, check out the #RTWSoon hashtag on twitter and talk with fellow travelers who are in the same situation as you! You are not alone!

Glad those you who are gearing up to travel are teaming up to support each other.
When you start traveling, you can use #rtwtravel as a hashtag instead!
