In a few days I will be off to the Middle East on an 18 day trip that covers Athens, Greece; Egypt; Jordan; and New York City. As a result of the extreme temperatures in August at these places, my packing was pretty simple to accommodate. Temperatures in Egypt range 95 to 110°F and temperatures in Jordan range anywhere from 80-100°F depending on the location. Unlike my European packing list, packing for the Middle East had to take in mind the conservative nature of the culture, as well as trying to not outright label myself as an American tourist. Additionally, the tour company that I will be traveling with has asked for light packing so baggage can fit easily on the overnight trains and wont weigh us down while walking. This is also necessary for budget airlines, in which Aegean Airlines requires bags to be below 20kg when checked. Unlike when packing for Europe, by packing very thin and light clothes in a small bag, the total weight was only 7kg! Not bad for over packing.
